Did you know pumpkins are considered to be a fruit and not a vegetable?  Each fruit contains up to 500 cream-white husky seeds. Pumpkins are low in calories, fat and sodium and high in fiber. They are good sources of Vitamin A, Vitamin B, potassium, protein, and iron. Pumpkins are packed with fiber, vitamins, minerals, and numerous health promoting antioxidants. Pumpkins are 90% water & rich in calcium.


Pumpkin seeds are great for you too. They contain protein and are an excellent source of amino acid tryptophan and glutamate. Pumpkin seeds also contain Vitamin E & cut the risk of prostate and ovarian cancers in humans. Nuts and seeds, including those of pumpkins, are naturally rich in certain plant-based chemicals called phytosterols that have been shown in studies to reduce LDL or bad cholesterol. Pumpkin seeds also contain zinc, which helps your immune system.
